Welcome to the Opéra Louisiane Community Chorus!
Community Chorus members are singers from all walks of life who enjoy the chance to perform on stage with our company.
Tuesday, August 28th!
Auditions We are holding auditions for new chorus members on Tuesday, August 28th from 7:30pm-9:30pm at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Please prepare 16 bars of any music that you feel confident singing. Music must be memorized. If you have sung with us in the past and only want to sing in Amahl, you do not need to audition again. If you have sung with us in the past and want to sing in Carmen, we encourage you to audition. We will only have five singers per part in Carmen and those will be chosen through these auditions. If interested please contact Mysti at firstname.lastname@example.org.
18-19 Season This year, Opéra Louisiane has an incredible season that provides excellent opportunities for our Community Chorus to shine on stage! We are excited to present Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors on Friday, December 7 at 7:30PM and Saturday, December 8 at 3:00PM at The Church International (formerly Christian Life on Quail Drive). In the spring of 2019, we will be presenting a fully staged production of Bizet’s Carmen. Performances are Friday, April 26 at 7:30PM and Sunday, April 28 at 3PM at Manship Theatre at Shaw Center for Performing Arts. Please review the attached chorus schedules to ensure your availability for rehearsals. Carmen rehearsal coincide with Easter/ Spring break for many area schools.
Chorus Rehearsal Schedule: Amahl / Carmen
Chorus Needs For Amahl, we are seeking singers age 12 and up. We need a varied chorus of children and adults to play the roles of townspeople. For Carmen, we are seeking singers age 18 and up. An additional children’s chorus for Carmen will be cast at a later date.
A Community Collaboration We want this year’s performance of Amahl to be the start of a community tradition in Baton Rouge, one that we repeat each year. We are seeking area churches to join us for this production by sharing your singers and your costumes, if you have them. After the performance there will be a Community Cookie Cheer for all of us to celebrate the holidays together.
