Due to the phase 2 restrictions in Louisiana, Opéra Louisiane had to make the difficult decision of canceling the Christmas at Crowne event on December 12th. Please stay tuned for a special Christmas Eve airing of Amahl and the Night Visitors.

Join us on December 12th for a unique night of holiday celebration! Opéra Louisiane brings the magic of Christmas to the Baton Rouge community free of charge. Finish your Christmas shopping, get some hot chocolate, grab a blanket, watch a Christmas holiday favorite, and snap a family photo by the beautiful Christmas tree located in the Crowne Plaza atrium all at Christmas at Crowne!

Opéra Louisiane invites the community to gather together at the Crowne Plaza to celebrate the holidays while following the guidelines for social distancing. Christmas at Crowne will be held from 6 to 8:30 PM. Local vendors will provide prepackaged snacks, drinks will be available at a cash bar, and arts vendors will display their art creations perfect for Christmas gifts.

Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs or a blanket to watch a showing of Amahl and the Night Visitors produced by Opéra Louisiane in 2018 starting at 7 PM. In this production, Michael Borowitz, Artistic Director of Opéra Louisiane, leads a cast of remarkable singers and a professional orchestra. Amahl and the Night visitors is a retelling of the nativity story form one young boy’s perspective. He makes a selfless gift that changes his life forever! The 45-minute act opera is sung in English and since its premiere in 1951 has turned into a holiday favorite. perfect for the family and to get you in the giving spirit of Christmas.

To ensure social distancing, only 250 people are permitted, so make sure to register early to secure a spot on the Crowne Plaza ballroom “lawn”. Face masks are required.
